Cheng Shi is an ancient city built during the Eastern Han Dynasty ( 25-220 AD) , known as the Lion City . Want to know more about these incredible submerged ruins that you can go diving with goggles and oxygen tank ? Then watch !
The five lions
Shi Cheng was sunk in 1959 when the Xin'an River hydroelectric dam was completed , creating a huge artificial lake with a thousand small islands . The name of this submerged city refers to the mountain that rose behind , Mount Wu Shi ( whose name means " the five lions " ) and the five city gates ( an unusual number , as normally cities had four).
Submerged between 26 and 40 meters, the city has remained paradoxically intact urban revolution that has transformed China since its opening to capitalism more than three decades , which has devastated much of its cultural heritage makes .
Thus, Shi Cheng has retained the surrounding walls and many buildings from the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties. Best of all is that all this can be seen in the underwater excursions organized by Big Blue, a diving agency Shanghai. Of course , visitors should have credited a diving course to plunge forward .
With their waterproof cameras , submarines tourists should go armed with a wetsuit because the temperature at the bottom round between eight and ten degrees, while on the surface ranges from eleven to 32 degrees .
